Supporting Environment
At NRG, we have a responsibility to the environment and to the communities
where we live and work. We are committed to being a positive force for
conservation within our local communities. Explore how we’re helping groups
like Aggie Replant and the Corporate Wetlands Restoration Project.
Helping A&M Tree Farm Sprout
Aggie Replant is one of the largest student-run environmental service projects in the nation—and NRG was proud to donate to the cause. The funds are slated for replenishing efforts at Replant’s Riverside Campus tree farm, wiped out in 2003 following an extremely dry summer.
Aggie Replant got its start in 1991, when Texas A&M University students (or “Aggies”) planted 400 trees to replenish the ones used in Bonfire—a school tradition for more than 90 years that celebrates its rivalry with the University of Texas at Austin.
Restoring Western Aquatic Habitats
When the regional administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 9 asked NRG West to help the Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership (CWRP), we stepped up to the plate. The partnership works to restore and preserve vital coastal ecosystems.
NRG West donated to the group—and thanks to state and federal matching programs in place, that donation increased, while other NRG facilities pledged to donate further funds to various local chapters of CWRP.
For NRG’s many environmentalists—professional and amateur—membership in CWRP comes with a special perk: employees can get their hands dirty when they work side by side with state and federal agencies on wetland restoration projects.
