tools they need to succeed. Learn about how our Global Giving initiative is
helping groups like Tijuana, Mexico’s Responsibility Organization and New Jersey SEEDs.

Give an Education, Help for an Eternity
For 27 years, Responsibility Organization has been educating the children of the Colonia Fausto Gonzalez area of Tijuana, Mexico’s municipal garbage dump. This location, not far from NRG’s southern California power plants, drew the attention of our employees as they saw a critical need to help Responsibility’s underserved pre-school, which found itself in danger of turning away students for the first time ever.

NRG donated funds to build two new school buildings to replace the existing dilapidated and cramped plywood structures. Now, in their place stands a new and safe five-classroom pre-school and a community recreation center that features a computer lab and an art school.


Planting SEEDS for the Future
We supplied a grant to help launch a unique College Prep Program (CPP) run by New Jersey SEEDS (Scholars, Educators, Excellence, Dedication, Success). For years, SEEDS has placed financially challenged youth into prestigious prep schools and colleges.

The CPP program is a similarly distinguished, and free, program enabling students to continue attending their own public schools. So far, in addition to studying math, language arts and writing on Saturdays, CPP students have visited Brown University, met with Wesleyan University and Stanford University, seen a Broadway musical, visited New York museums and attended college fairs.
