NRG Management

David Crane
President and Chief Executive Officer

David Crane became president and CEO of NRG Energy in 2003 and has led its transformation from a regional wholesale generation business to a leading, national energy company. NRG is the nation's largest competitive power generator with enough generating capacity to power 48 million homes. The company also is the nation’s largest owner/operator of solar facilities and among the top US producers of renewable energy. NRG is a major competitive energy retailer that serves nearly 3 million customers, primarily in Texas and in the Northeast.

David is one of the leading voices in the power industry on the topic of climate change and the need for curbing carbon emissions. He was one of the first U.S. power industry CEO to publicly call for mandatory climate change measures. He leads NRG's efforts in the transition to a clean energy economy and efforts to enable more individual choice and control of their energy. In recent years, NRG has invested significantly in repowering and retrofitting older coal plants, new renewable energy capacity, and in the development of carbon capture technology for coal-fired power plants. NRG also is building the nation's largest privately-funded network of electric vehicle fast-charging stations and marketing comprehensive energy services for residential, commercial and institutional customers nationally.

Prior to joining NRG, David served as CEO of International Power PLC, a UK-based wholesale power generation company, and previously held positions at Lehman Brothers and ABB Energy Ventures in Sydney, Hong Kong and New York. David is a graduate of Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and from Harvard Law School.
